German award for Abakanowicz

Magdalena Abakanowicz, an artist, has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her contribution to Polish-German dialogue. The Cross was presented to the artist by Michael Gerdts, the ambassador of Germany in Warsaw.

A Novel about Poland has been awarded for literary debut.

American of Polish origin, Brigid Pasulka, has been awarded Hemingway Foundation Award (Hemingway Foundation / PEN Award) for her debut literary novel, "A long, long time ago and essentially true”.

A Pole nominated for the Norwegian award

Agnieszka Grochowska has been nominated for the film Kanon Award in the best actress category. She has been appreciated for the role in the Norwegian film “Upperdog”, directed by Sara Johnsen – the Polish Filmmakers Association informed.

Poles without an Oscar

Nominated in 9 categories “Avatar” got only 3 statuettes from the American Movie Academy. And not in the most important categories, because the Oscar for directing and the best picture was given to the creators of the film about the war in Iraq “Hurt Locker”. Our “Rabbit à la Berlin” hasn’t got an award.

Cardinal Joseph Glemp with the Order of the White Eagle

Well known Polish Cardinal – Joseph Glemp was given the Order of the White Eagle. Lech Kaczyński awarded the cardinal himself in the Presidential Palace in Warsaw.
