Polish horseradish may captivate european markets. Produced by Danuta and Kazimierz Cieślowie in Pajęczna near Łodz it was put by the Ministry of Agliculture on the list of regional delicacies. Now the farmers decided to fight for the EU certificate.

But it is not that simple. In order to get the certificate they have to present the documents from the last 50 years which would confirm that in Pajęczno county was produced the horseradish. They also need the expert's reports which would confirm that the horseradish growing by the Warta river has special properties. The research must be carried out by the laboratories having an accreditaion of the Ministry of Agliculture.

Why is it useful to register products in EU? "Because in this way their name becomes protected, which means that only those products complying with assigned criteria can use its name." said Dariusz Goszczyński from the Ministry of Agliculture. "The producers gain also right to distinguish their product with EU logo. Such logo is an information for a consumer that he is buying a product produced traditionally and, therefore, it is more expensive."
