Witkacy's Festival in London
"The students of Westminster University in London decided to affect English audience with love to Witkacy. The festival on the 70th anniversary of death of the artist was organized to familiarize the Brits with creative activity of the writer and painter - Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz." wrote "Dziennik".
"The leitmotive are four letters 'W'." said Kevin Hayes, artistic director and originator of the festival who for over 20 years has been connected with Poland as an actor and teacher of art. Four "W" letters stand for Witkacy, Warsaw, Westminister and Washington. Hayes studied about Witkacy at The National Helena Modrzejewska Old Theatre in Krakow.
The Festival "Witkacy 2009" will have finished in September. It will be accompanied with theatre workshops, discussions devoted to the Polish artist and conferences with participation of researchers of his life. The audience will also have an opportunity to watch a spectacle under the title "The madman and the nun".
