Polish jeep on Mars
Is it possible that Poland will design its own project of a space car? The answer is “Yes”.
The Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements will design and construct a kind of space robot called “Scarab Beetle”. The institute will be cooperating with Mars Society Poland (MSP) and Technical Academy in Warsaw. Both research centers are responsible for constructing “Scarab Beetle” and the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements will support them. The robot is being constructed in order to take part in the contest of University Rover Challenge in the United States of America. It will be ready in the end of April 2009.
The space car will be taking samples of soil and transport them on earth. Besides that it will be able to take part in rescue and constructional missions.
University Rover Challenge contest is being organized by The Mars Society and it takes place on a desert in Utah, near MDRS (Martian Base).
Competitors must build a jeep or space car that is able to cover long distances on Mars and do researches.
