Photo album with pictures of Stefania Gurdowa creates a sensation in USA
The album which reached the top of American bestseller list of Photo-Eye bookshop contains pre-war pictures of Stefania Gurdowa from Dębica.
“It is hard to believe that the album was ignored in Poland. Only foreign people can appreciate Gurdowa and her fantastic works. What is more, I am offended for my romance with the lady from Dębica” – said Andrzej Kramarz from Cracovian foundation “Imago Mundi”.
Those fantastic pictures and plates were found 12 years ago during the renovation of a house which owned for Gorzynik family from Dębica. There was a photographer shop in the building before World War II. Its owner – Stefania Gurdowa was famous photographer, but after the war she stayed forgotten. The family did not know how to promote Gurdowa so they gave those photos to Andrzej Kramarz who promised to publish them.
The album was printed and sent to USA, Germany and Luxemburg. It reached 6th place of bestsellers of famous American bookshop – Photo-Eye. “I did not expect this success, but now I am very proud. Hopefully that album will be seen by as many people as it possible” – said Kramarz.
