The exhibition was prepared by Museum of Europe from Brussels to celebrate 50th anniversary of signing Rome Treaties. The exhibition shows the history and development of united Europe until the accession of Romania and Bulgaria. The core story about Europe’s integration is very well mixed with other historic events such as cold war and peaceful changes of political systems in Eastern Europe.

This exhibition is not a history of European Institutions. It is a story of complicated fate of European folk. History of Europe is shown on the example of single people from Member States that had played their part in historic events. Among them we can meet Inga and Klaus Stuermer, who made a tunnel below a Berlin wall and escaped to West Germany, Jerzy Borowczak, who was one of the workers on strike in Gdanśk shipyard in the 80s or Gyuli Csics from Hungary, who edited his own daily during a Hungarian revolution (he was only 12 years old then!).

The exhibition consists of over 1000 objects from different museums in Europe. The visitors will be able to go through a famous Checkpoint Charlie – a borderline between East and West Germany, to see gigantic models of ballistic missiles including a normal size US Pershing and Soviet SS20 with three nuclear warheads.
