Since June 2009 it will be prohibited to smoke on beaches in Gdansk. The new law will come into effect very soon because of non-smoking people, children and pregnant women. The penalty for breaking this prohibition will be 20-500 zloty – informed “Polska”.

The prohibition has been suggested by Polish Association of Healthy Programmes. “We wanted to show that smoking may cause many diseases. Our beaches are public places with many tourists and young people. They must learn that cigarettes can kill us. We are no so original, because the United Stated of America, Australia or England have already prohibited smoking in public places and on beaches.

Also the European Union supports this idea. According to its international law, the prohibition must be announced in all membership countries.
