Promotion of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania
600 pages Book of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania written by historians from Poland, Lithuania and Belarus was published by the Department of Borderland Culture and Art from Sejny – informed Polish Press Agency.
The book which was presented last Sunday in “Biała Synagoga Gallery” will be published in four languages: Polish, Belarusian, Lithuanian and English. It contains works of well know historians, for example: historical essays, treatises and reproductions of many fantastic icons. 1000 copies will be delivered to main Polish, Belarusian and Lithuanian libraries.
“We want to promote the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and its phenomenal history. As we know this history is connected with Poland and our greatest time. We did it for Czesław Miłosz, Tomasz Venclowa and Andrzej Strumiła who were excited about the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. There many points of view on our common history, what makes this work very attractive for everyone.
The Grand Duchy of Lithuania was founded by Lithuanians in 12th/13th century and then expanded its territory to Kievan Rus. This country covered present-day territory of Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine and some parts of Russia and Poland. In 1569 the Union of Lublin created Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth which existed till 1795.
