Tomorrow a smoking ban on Gdańsk beaches will start to be in effect. This is a result of Gdansk councilmen resolution that was signed earlier this month.

According to this resolution service points such as beach bars or fast foods will be able to out;line a small area for smokers.

“This ban shall protect health of non smokers that visit our beaches. They come there to have a breath of fresh air and not to breathe cigarette smoke that causes cancer, allergies and all kinds of cardiovascular system diseases” – can be read in justification of the resolution.

This is a first case of smoking ban in Poland, but is nothing special in other countries such as Italy, USA or Australia.

For breaking this resolution Police will fine smokers with a penalty of 20 to 500 zloty.
