European Elections today
Today Polish citizens will vote for their representatives in European Parliament. This day will decide in which direction Poland will go as different parties joined different European Parliament groups. It is also a fight for money, as every Eurodeputy will earn around 33 thousand zloty a month (around 8 thousand Euros).
European Elections are not very popular with society as most of us thinks that we are not represented strongly enough to make decisions in Brussels. Others do not realize that European law has a great influence on our domestic legislation. For those reasons only 25-30% of Poles will go to voting urns. This means that results can be unexpected.
This can be decisive as major Polish parties have made very different coalitions. PiS has joined forces with conservative fraction (they want to stop subsidies for farmers). PO has joined the biggest Christian Catholic fraction and PSL has agreed to cooperate wit other farmer’s parties from Europe.
The results will be known of Tuesday.
