Polish soldiers came back sick from Chad
More than a half of 330 soldier contingent from Poland that stationed in Chad as a part of UN peace mission, has come sick back home. Soldiers are infected with lambiosis.
Laboratory examination showed that soldiers are infected with lambdosis, a quite common tropical disease – reports Gazeta Wyborcza. This sickness is caused by cysts that are transported in water and fasces.
It is necessary to swallow cysts in order to become ill. Not treated properly, it can cause irreparable changes to immune system. – All drinking water for soldiers is bottled- said colonel Dariusz Kasperczyk from Operational Command of Polish Army. - However we use local water as technical water which means that soldiers use it for showering for example. We suspect that they could get infected this way, but it is just a suspicion – he added.
