A construction of Polish Jews History Museum has started
Last Friday a contract for 150 million zloty (38 million Euro) building in Warsaw’s Muranów was signed. It should be ready by 2012.
This investment will be partly financed by a Ministry of Culture and Warsaw itself. – This is going to be one of most beautiful museums in the world. It touches also an important issue of 1000 years of common history of Poles and Jews- said Mayor of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz.
The three stores Museum building will be placed just next to the Ghetto Heroes Monument. The place was designed by a Finnish company Lahdelma & Mahlamaki. There is going to be a symbolic crack all along the building that shall remind of partition of Red Sea that allowed Jews to escape from Egypt.
The building will be ready by year 2012 and later it will be equipped. It is supposed to have a multimedia hall that will take visitors to crowded streets of Jewish district at the beginning of XXth century. The whole cost of equipping a museum is estimated for 100 million zloty ( 25 million Euro). It will be fully financed by a Jewish History Institute that has received a donation of 5 million Euro from German government and will be also supported by France and USA.
