Jasło authorities - burn Hitler's oak
Authorities of Jasło want to cut down and burn a 67 years old beautiful oak, just because it was planted to celebrate Adolf Hitler's birthday - informs "Dziennik".
Some citizens of JasÅ‚o do not agree with this decision. One of them is Kazimierz Polak - a witness of tree planting. Unwillingly he is responsible for authorities’ decision, because he told the story of this tree during a JasÅ‚o Enthusiast Group meeting. According to him the tree was planted on 20th April 1942, a day before Hitler's birthday by the Nazis. It was supposed to come from Baunau an Inn in Austria - a home town of Adolf Hitler.
- We won't change our decision. We are going to cut down this tree - says Jasło mayor Maria Kurowska. She wants to plant a new one that will commemorate murdered in Katyń, to replace the old one.
The citizens think otherwise. - It is silly to destroy a mighty tree just because it had a cause so many years before. It is better just to change the cause and let the tree stay' - says one of them.
