Poland can loose millions of Euros
European Commission demands a budget deficit cut of 3.6 per cent per capita income from Poland. Poland is given two years time to reach this target. If the country is unsuccessful, sanctions can include freezing European Funds allotted to Poland. “We shall not worry. This is a standard warning procedure” – says European Parliament Member Jacek Sayusz-Wolski.
Commission started a special procedure against Poland. In a document quoted by Reuters Agency it is written: “Poland has to stop the increase of the budget deficit as soon as possible, but no latter than in 2011”.
A 3 per cent limit has been exceeded last year by 0.9 per cent. This year it could be up to 6.6 per cent – expects European Commission.
If Poland is not able to fulfill EU demands it is possible that no European Funds will be transferred to this country. Also joining the Eurozone is threatened as steady 3 per cent deficit is a perquisite of adopting a European Currency.
However Polish politicians see this situation differently. “This is a standard procedure. All countries that are over the limit become such notice from the Commission”- says Jacek Sayusz-Wolski.
