Yesterday was a bad day for Polish tennis at Wimbledon. Our best double Frystenberg/Matkowski and our women’s single representative Marta Domachowska were knocked out in the first round of this prestigious tournament. Only Agnieszka Radwańska moved to the second round according to her plan.

Domachowska was not a favorite in her game against Annabel Medina Garrigua from Spain. However a first set showed that Domachowska ranked 80 lower than her opponent could play good tennis. She won the first set 6:3 and Polish fans were waiting for the sensation. However Domachowska stopped to play it the second and third set loosing them without history.

Matkowski/Frystemberg who won their first grass tournament couple of weeks ago made a sensational exit in the First Round against hardly known American duo of Eric Butorac/Scott Lipsky. They made a great number of double serve mistakes. They lost just in over an hour.

Only Agnieszka Radwańska performed as expected. She won her game against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 7:5, 6:1. The game could be shorter if the officials did not make mistakes. However they did not have any influence on the dominant win of Radwańska in the end.

“I’m glad I’m through to the next round, but I expect to play many more matches here.” – she said after the game.
