According to new law about media which was accepted by Polish Senate commercial breaks during the programmes are allowed. It means that both public TV (TVP) and radio may interrupt their programmes in order to show commercials.

It seems that there will be a huge war between public TV and private televisions. Owners of biggest rivals of Polish public TV, these are Polsat and TVN decided to meet each other in order to draw up the strategy against TVP.

TVN earned around 2.81 billion zloty, Polsat 2.74 billion zloty while TVP1 and TVP2 “only” 2.46 billion zloty last year. According to media experts, the new law may be helpful for TVP and bring additional 500 million zloty per year. It is believed that Polsat and TVN are at “commercial war” with public TV. Both private TVs states that TVP is privileged because of licence fee and some commercials, like announcements of government.
