On the beach in Gdańsk and Jelitkowo is starting on Thursday an open-air festival of sandy sculptures under the title "Gdansk Architecture Soul".The festival will be held for the third time.

For ten days 33 sculptors from Russia, Estonia, Spain, Poland and the USA will carve 16 monumental, historic buildings. The artists will use three thousand tons of sand. "It will be a city made of sand." said Andrzej Stelmasiewicz, a chairman of the Gdańsk Community Foundation, organizing the festival.

Apart from the characteristic buildings, such as: St Mary's Church, Royal Chapel and Great Arsenal, the artists will sculpture the natural-size figures of Gdańsk citizens and silhouettes of animals. Next to the railway station will be built a train, and next to Zuraw will be carved a ship. The city hall will be 6 meter high, whereas the other sculpture will be 4,5 meter.
