Poles have constructed a computer operated by an eye
A group scientists form Gdańsk Technical University supervised by Professor Andrzej Czyżewski have designed a device that allows a paralyzed person to operate a computer moving his/hers eyes only. This device will be also applied for diagnosis of kids with learning disorder and hearing disorder. It is supposed to be 10 times cheaper than similar solutions of western competitors.
This inovation will be introduced to the market by Young Digital Planet Copmany that cooperates with Technical University of Gdańsk. "Eye trucker" followed to other scientific discoveries of "mouth mouse" and "intelligent pen" for kids with dyslexia that was invented as a part of that partnership.
Piotr Odya from a Multimedia Systems Institute of Technical University of Gdańsk explained how the computer works. It has four infrared lights that light the face of a user. Then a special internet camera recognized the movement of a person by infrared lighting changes that occur during the computer's use.
