Poles afraid of unemployment
Poles do not feel secure about their jobs. They fear the economic crisis and see little opportunity for improving their future. Such are results of a poll made by CBOS Institute.
The financial crisis did bite the self-confidence of Poles, who are normally quite pessimistic anyway. According to the survey made by CBOS Institute 33 per cent of Poles are afraid of being made redundant in the near future. One in two Poles say that employment prospects near their place of residence are very poor and 15 per cent of questioned people did not see any changes of getting any work in the near future.
This negative attitude of Poles towards a work market is caused by the fact of 328 thousand people being sacked in the first quarter of this year. Normally such attitude results in general savings and loss of consumption. However governmental stats show that the consumption rate this year is higher than last year in the first two quarters of the year.
Does it mean that Poles spend more during a crisis, even though they feel insecure? It is highly unlikely. Small cars exported to the Western Europe and our southern neighbors shopping in Poland seem to boost stats. This theory is also supported by the fact that 60 per cent of Poles do not plan any holiday journeys this year.
