Jerzy Buzek – official president of the European Parliament
Jerzy Buzek was officially chosen to a position of the president of the European Parliament. 555 politicians supported Buzek during the session is Strasbourg.
“Our new president – Jerzy Buzek” – said in Polish previous president – Hans-Gert Pottering. Polish former prime minister got 555 from 713 votes. 69 votes were invalid.
“I do believe that this decision is a good sign for new members of the European Union like: Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia or Slovenia” – said Jerzy Buzek in English. He said “thank you” to his opponents – Eva-Britt Svensson from Sweden, Mario Mauro from Italy.
