U2 rocks in Chorzów
That was an unforgettable night at Śląski Stadium in Chorzów. It started with songs from the new album and 70 thousand people were singing “No Line on the Horizon” along Bono. Later musicians went back the “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” album.
They played “Beautiful Day” and “Elevation”. After that came a moment everyone was waiting for. When the crowd heard first tunes of “New Year’s Day”, the stadium turned into huge Polish flag. The song itself was written by Bono as a result of his thoughts about Lech Wałęsa during a state of war that was declared in Poland in 1981.
Bono must have enjoyed this moment as he said: - I feel special energy in this country! What makes Poland and Ireland soul mates? Stubbornness? Love for freedom? Faith in better future where everyone is equal? Then he bowed to the crowd that was chanting “Dziękujemy”.
U2 showed their political views as well. Bono showed his support to Aung San Suu Kyi from Burma. At the end of the concert Bono said: - This night shall not be forgotten. Thank you my friends!
