Ferrari did not offer a place to Kubica
Ferrari's decision to replace Luka Badoer with Giancarlo Fisichella means that Robert Kubica will stay in BMW Sauber until the end of the season. F1.pl internet site tries to answer the question why Ferrari selected Fisichella over Kubica.
There are couple of reasons behind this decision. First of all Kubica is still tied with his contract with BMW Sauber. The team will cease to exist by the end of the season, but Peter Sauber tries to rescue his team and looks for someone, who would be able to replace BMW. Ferrari could offer engine deliveries to Sauber (they sold him engines before in years 1997-2005) to release Kubica from his contract. However it is uncertain if Sauber will start next year and BMW has still a deciding vote in the team.
On the other hand getting Fisichella was much simpler. Crisis struck Force India did not pay Ferrari for all engines delivered from last season, so they could give Fisichella to Ferrari for some part of this debt.
Moreover 36 Italian veteran will be happy with the place just until the end of the season. Robert Kubica on the other hand demanded a contract for 2010 as well.
