Poland has won their first game of EURObasket 2009 against Bulgaria 90:78 (32:21, 20:16, 23:21, 15:20). Our team has dominated form the beginning to the very end in a relatively easy game. Real test is waiting for it on Tuesday, when they play against Lithuania and on Wednesday, when they play against Turkey.

The game started well with Michał Ignerski scoring the first bucket of the game. After that Poland never looked back leading the whole game. It was possible due to very good efficiency of Ignerski, who scored 22 points in a game, good defensive and offensive play of Marcin Gortat (16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks), as well as good play by David Logan.

Poland played some transition offence, so Bulgarian team was not able to set up a proper defensive stand. This tactics was very useful as we had some problems with opponent’s zone defense at the beginning of third quarter.

However despite the win this game showed Polish weaknesses. First of all, when Łukasz Koszarek and David Logan were resting, Bulgaria had a huge advantage on point guard and shooting guard positions. On the other hand it is also unknown how our backs up big men play as they did not play despite the fact that the opponent was not very dangerous. Also team defense was very shaky at times, which did not hurt against Bulgaria, but will definitely cost against better opposition.
