Poland has won a European Volleyball Championship for the first time in history today! Our team has beaten France 3:1 (29:27, 25:21, 16:25, 26:24) in the final.

It was a historic day for Poland. They played in European Championship Final after 26 years. However this time they were the favorites to win it, as our team has beaten France in the opening game of this tournament also 3:1. Supporters hoped that as the European Championship started, it would finish. They were not wrong.

Poland has won a gold medal for the first time, and has done it in style, as they lost no games during this tournament. This success is even greater as Mariusz Wlazły, Michał Winiarski and Sebastian Świderski, three leaders of our national team, had to stay home. Paradoxically this fact help our team that was a monolith were 14 athletes were ready to step up, when needed, not looking at usual “clutch” players, who used to decide games. This made our team unpredictable and allowed us to celebrate the triumph.

Also the most important individual prize of Most Valuable Player went to Piotr Gruszka, who definitely is in a life form.

The bronze medals were won by Bulgaria, who won easily with depressed Russian team (they lost their semi-final against France after a very dramatic game) 3:0.
