Polish basketball team looses without style

After first two wins it was all a loosing streak for Poland until today, when they lost to Spain and were knocked out of Eurobasket tournament that is held in Poland.

After loosing to Serbia and Slovenia, Poland had last chance to qualify today during their game with Spain, which also would be eliminated if they lost. Before this game Polish players knew that they had a very difficult task of defeating World Champions that also had their backs pressed against the wall, but they promised to fight. They did… for the five first minutes. Later on it was only Spain that showed good basketball. The game finished 90:68 (23:14, 19:12, 29:20, 19:22).

This game showed the same weakness of Polish team as previous ones. Bad organizations in defense, short bench, lack of ideas for effective attack were primary sins of Polish team during this game. Apart form that Marcin Gortat, team’s leader, who had a bad game today, was shown by Pau Gasol that there is a long way in front of him to become top NBA center.

However, it must be said that winning two games and playing even games with top European teams means a great improvement to what we have seen couple of years ago. The only question is if we can improve more or will we fall back to be less than average again.
