A famous Polish literature translator into French Roger Legras was given a state medal of “Person of merit for culture – Gloria Artis” on Monday in Paris. Thanks to his translations French people could learn that other countries apart from France also have extremely good poets. He translated: Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki, Cyprian Kamil Norwid.

He made a very good translation of „Pan Tadeusz”, which gave Polish authorities the final impulse to merit him. The ceremony took place in Polish Embassy in Paris. Tomasz Metra, the vice Minister of Culture and National Heritage that presented Legras with his award, said that Poles were very grateful to him for showing their literature to French people. He also added that the awarded translator was working all the time, which will result in publication of “Beniowski” and “King ghost” by Słowacki in French in the near future.
