Police will spend millions to fight with reckless driving
Instead of building new roads, Polish government is going to spend 7 million złoty (1.6 million Euro) to buy equipment for the Police including video-radars undercover cars, laser radars and breathalyzers.
Six cars designed for car crash investigations, mobile command center, 18 undercover cars with video-radars, 24 mobile terminals, 20 laser radars and 20 breathalyzers are going to be bought by the Police in Masuira region. The road infrastructure there is one of the worst in Poland and the equipment will make drivers' life even more miserable.
The officials justify their decision to buy the equipment with safety and following the White Paper on European Transport Policy for 2010, which intends to cut the number of deaths caused by car accidents by half.
It seems that this policy is going to be done in Polish style. There is no point to build better, safer roads. It is better to penalize more drivers, as it will insure not only safety, but also income to the budget.
