Czech Republic – Poland 2:0
Czech Republic defeated Poland 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, but it turned out that it meant nothing as Slovenia beat group leaders Slovakia.
The first half of the game was pretty uneventful with Poland having one very good chance and Czech Republic created none. However Tomas Necid came off the bench at halftime to put the Czechs ahead with a trickling shot that found the back of the net in the 51st minute. Poland did not respond to this blow, so Czechs could strike one more in 72nd minute with a header of Jaroslav Plasil to seal the game.
However Czechs could not be happy after the game, because second-placed Slovenia beat Slovakia 2-0 in Bratislava to cut their lead to two points. Only Slovenia’s loss with San Marino, which lost all 9 games including 10-0 against Poland would allow Czechs to qualify.
It is also highly unlikely that Slovakia is going to loose points against crisis driven Poland, whose new coach Stefan Majewski shouted “Come on, come on, let’s do it guys” instead of giving any advice to the experimental team he selected.
This was the worst World Cup qualifier of Poland for years. However if Football Association does not reform itself, Poland is going to sink even more.
