New archaeological park in Tum near Łęczyca

Archaeologists from Łódź have just finished their works in an old castle owned to the Piast Dynasty. What is more there will be built an archaeological park as a part of the project titled “Tum near Łęczyca. The pearl of Roman route”.

The city will be rebuilt. What is more there will also be built an ethnographic open-air museum and conference centre. The project is worth 25 million zloty (6 million euro).

According to the archaeologists the city was built in the end of Xth century by Mieszko I. XIth and XIIth centuries was time of brightest economic boom of this old city. It is believed that Tum was one of most important cities in that time Poland.

All the grounds belong to the Archaeological and Ethnographical Museum in Łódź. The museum decided to search out the city very carefully and archaeologists found many interesting items from the time of past glory of the town. These are: arrowheads, silver spurs, impressive decorations of clothes and many fantastic pans and bowls. There were also found many items connected with smithery what means that there were many qualified craftsmen in the city. 

The city and the Collegiate church are most interesting monuments in Poland and East part of Europe. The Collegiate church was built in 1141-1161 near the Benedictine’s Abbey.
