Poland wants to tackle a growing waste problem. For this reason it has encouraged Finnish company St1 to build a bio-ethanol rectification plant.

According to wnp.pl St1, which has set up a chain of self service petrol stations (until now they have opened 12) in Poland, is going to build a bio-ethanol rectification plant by 2011. It is going to be a prototype project, but if it works well, more such plants can be expected in following years.

Each installation in the plant will be producing 1,000- 3,000 cubic meters of ethanol per year. Domestic waste, such as bakery waste, potato waste or industrial waste from beverage production are going to be used a fuel. This technology is going to allow to deal with some types of waste, giving back quality product.
