Liqueur made by Observant on a list of traditional products
“Benedyktynka” is an aromatic liqueur produced by Observantine in Lubiń (in Wielkopolska) which was placed on a list of traditional products kept by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“Benedyktynka” is placed in ‘drinks’ (alcoholic and non alcoholic) category what proves that it is high quality drink with unique taste. What is more, the liqueur was recognized as a part of cultural and culinary heritage of Wielkopolska. The history of this unique drink is very old. The drink is mentioned in “Pan Tadeusz” by Adam Mickiewicz which is believed as one of the best Polish books (IXth chapter).
The recipe is only known by two Observant brothers who prepare the liqueur. It was made in XVI century, probably in 1510 by Italian monk - Bernardo Vincelli wrote the recipe for very unique liqueur made of herbs, rum and roots.
