Wawel’s courtyard will be renovated

A courtyard of the Wawel Castle in Cracow will soon be renovated. The renovation will cost 13 million zloty and last 3 years – informed the authorities of the castle.

The surface of the courtyard was made in 1960, so after 50 years it must be renovated. It is also dangerous for tourist, because there are many irregularities and wholes. All works will be started in this month. The surface will be changed with stone paving blocks while the decorative wall along the courtyard will be completely rebuilt. What is more there will also be another important change, because the stairs will be converted into ramps for disable people.

New benches, rubbish bins and lamp posts will appear in the courtyard making this place more pleasant and comfortable for all visitors. Wawel’s chairman decided to renovate electric cables, network of sewage pipes and water supply system.

The investment will be covered by the European Union and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. But it is not all. The castle will also have new elevation. The other investment is also roof of the Pieskowa Skała Castle.
