Margaret Thatcher with honoris causa doctorate in Łódź
Former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher has been given honoris causa degree of Łódź University. Unfortunately the Minister was not able to collect the prize herself because of bad health condition so the authorities of the university decided to go to London for this important ceremony. Students from Łódź had chance to see the event via TV.
Thatcher said that it was one of most important prizes in her whole life. “I am so sad that I cannot be in Łódź and collect it myself. But on the other hand I am very proud that I am appreciated by Poles. British people of my generation will never forget for everything you have done during the war. We do respect Polish nation” – said Margaret Thatcher. “When I visited the shipyard in Gdańsk in 1989 I saw the same “unbeaten spirit” which accompanied Polish soldiers during World War II” – added Thatcher.
“I saw then many cheering face of people who knew that communism was gone. Poland was independent. You knew that the future would be bright for our country and it was true” – explained British legendary politician. The celebration was planned on the 22nd of June 2009, but Margaret Thatcher had an accident so it was postponed.
