“He explained sources and deficiency of totalitarian communism and its threats for all human kind” – wrote American National Endowment for Democracy commenting the award - “Democracy Service Medal”.

University of Warsaw decided to organize a session dedicated to Professor Leszek Kołakowski and his fantastic achievements. The professor was connected with this university since the beginning of his career abroad. The session in The Kazimierzowski Palace attractedmany friends and students of the professor who wanted to pay tribute to one of the best philosophers in Poland. The award was collected by professor’s wife – Tamara Kołakowska.

Before the celebration, there were reminded most interesting facts from his life and his most important works. Professor Jerzy Szacki tried to explain Kołakowski evolutions from communism to criticism of this system. “Kołakowski knew that our communism was a lie, but on the other hand could have noticed its values. According to the professor communism was not the same as fascism, and only fascism was bad for our hero” – said Szacki.
