According to Evening Standard criminals offer Polish females thousands for marrying citizens of countries outside the EU such as Pakistan or Afghanistan. '
The cost of such transaction for the groom is around 10 thousand pounds. For this price criminals find a proper bride and organize a quiet ceremony outside the UK to avoid control. Polish females that agree to cooperate in this procedure earn 3 thousand pounds for such "paper marriage".
The main reason for such practice is to allow people outside the UK to legally work and stay in the UK. Two years after marring EU citizen and staying in the UK, a person can apply for British citizenship. After that the "couple" can get a divorce.
Polish consul in London admitted that the number of Poles that married foreigners outside the EU has risen in last couple of months.
