Press conference on the about Lower Silesian Political and Economic Forum in Krzyżowa
On September 19th at 11 a.m. invited journalists had opportunity to meet with a committee providing patronage for Lower Silesian Political and Economic Forum and events connected with the forum. The committee includes: chair of the foundation “Krzyżowa” – Annemarie Franke, president of Świdnica – Wojciech Murdzek, starost – Zygmunt Worsa, borough leader – Teresa Mazurek, chairman of the committee - Jarosław Kurzawa and originator of the forum – Janisław Muszyński.
Many fantastic people will come in order to take part in the event. Among them former Prime Minister – Tadeusz Mazowiecki. Also Helmut Kohl wanted to visit the forum, but unfortunately he had an accident that caused serious injury to his head. Kohl is being rehabilitated but he took patronage over the forum. “German government is being built at the moment so I am not sure who else will come from Germany” – said Annemarie Franke.
Starost – Zygmunt Worsa and borough leader – Teresa Mazurek described the significance of Krzyżowa for the region – “It is our window to the world. We have many partnership cities in Germany thanks to Krzyżowa”.
The president mentioned more difficult sides of the partnership – “We should understand history today in order to understand past times. It is one and only chance to understand all problems between Poland and Germany that have ever occurred. We are treading on thin ice so we do not need more unnecessary discussions. I do believe that a polite gesture of Mazowiecki and Kohl that took place 20 years ago is deeply symbolic for both nations”.
“We are not sure if there is chance to unveil a part of the Berlin Wall. This part of the celebration will be prepared by the Chancellery of the Sejm so I cannot say that the commemorative plaque will be unveiled” – explained Annemarie Franke.
Janisław Muszyński who is one of originators of the forum expressed his worries – “We should ask very important question like where are you going Europe? “Solidarity” has changed our continent. I do believe that we must take care of our culture foundations which are fundamental for our future especially morality and social wealth. Cultural foundations have changed our lives and caused all political changes. Without renaissance of our culture and civilization there would not be innovation”.
“Our meeting in Krzyżowa will have only positive influence on Polish-German relationships. Maybe it will be cyclical event?” – said Jarosław Kurzawa.
Journalists asked about German media and its interest in the event in Krzyżowa. “German press focuses on the Berlin's Wall Fall anniversary . What is more members of German government do not remember that times so it is little different situation as it was 20 years ago. But German society is really interested in our relationships” – explained Annemarie Franke.
“What would be without Krzyżowa? I would not marry Polish citizen” – said Franke, but I am only joking. Our relationships would be worse. Every year there are 500 people, which means that both countries take care about Poland and Germany”. This was the last point of the conference.
