Gdańsk fights for second European Parliament Office in Poland
- European Parliament Office in Gdańsk would be a great symbol of Solidarity Movement and position of our city - Paweł Abramowicz, the city major said.
He also adds: - It would also have its promotional, political and prestigious value. It would allow our citizens to be better informed about structure and tasks of European Parliament. For this reason I suggested our city to Jerzy Buzek.
Regional Offices of European Parliament have information and representation tasks. They are supposed to support local communities, European MP's from the region and inform locals about Parliament's and other EU organs' actions.
The second office was given to Poland last Monday. Apart from GdaÅ„sk also Kraków, PoznaÅ„, WrocÅ‚aw, Lublin, Rzeszów and BiaÅ‚ystok are going to compete. Polish European MP's will have to decide, which city is going to be chosen. The choice will not be easy as all 50 of them come from different regions and they cannot even decide what method to use during the voting. Some of them want a secret voting, other want to eliminate one candidacy every time they vote until the winner is chosen.
