It is not certain any more that Janusz Lewandowski is going to become a EU budget Commissioner. The wealthiest lands do not want him as they want to cut additional funds for poorer countries. They are afraid that a Pole is not going to allow that. For this reason they prefer a candidate from Lithuania, who is going to be more "cooperative".

Jose Manuel Barroso gave a hint that he would like Janusz Lewandowski to become EU budget Commissioner as he had excellent references and he used to be a Head of European Parliament Budget Commission. However Netherlands, Germany, UK and France and other countries that pay the most to the budget suggest that someone more cooperative would be a better choice.

According to their plans someone from Lithuania could become the job. Vilinus needs EU credits to stay afloat during the crisis and therefore might be very cooperative as far as budget is concerned.
