All Saints Day on roads
Poles are going to travel to visit graves of their nearest and dearest this weekend. It is estimated that more than 4 million Poles are going to leave their homes in order to do that.
For that reason a new edition of Police action called “Candle” was launched. “We are going to send as many Policemen on roads as possible. They are going to control speed and technical condition of cars to ensure everybody’s safety” – a spokesperson for Lower Silesia Police said to Wyborcza. Statistics show that in couple of days before 1st November 5 times more road collisions occur than year’s average.
Police also appeals for caution and reason. Traffic is going to be very heavy, so all road users have to be patient. It is going to rain, so roads are going to be slippery. Apart from that so called “Sunday drivers” (people, who rarely use their cars, especially elderly people – ed.) are going to hit roads as well.
For this reason we have to remember that we are supposed to visit our families that passed away, not to join them in a family grave.
