How do Polish employees deal with the crisis?
Stealing company property, selling client databases or classified information about their own company to competitors are a common practice in Poland. Malicious people may say it is a way to earn some extra cash to monthly income.
According to a report by Euler Hermes, 92 per cent of companies complain about dishonest employees who cheat and steal. However it is not certain if those figures are as high due to the opinion that Poles generally steal or is it due to genuine data presented by companies. For example Kaufland in Szczecin claims that its employees stole goods worth 700 000 złoty (165 000 Euro). In fact this is the amount of all stolen goods in this branch, which means that also customers have their own share in this value.
Nevertheless a year ago only of Polish companies reported problems with dishonest employees. Right now nine out of ten companies have this issue. Thefts of property are most common (45 per cent of all cases), but also confidential data stealing seems to take its toll (5 per cent of all cases).
The question remains, why people started to be dishonest towards their employers. Is it because monthly income is lower or is it because they do not feel a need to be loyal to someone who is not honest with them? Let’s hope those questions will not need an answer in the future.
