OPPA Festival in Warsaw

OPPA Festival means Acting Interpretation of Song Contest which will take place on the 21th – 27th November 2009. First OPPA Festival took place in 1978 in Hybrydy club. 31 years old history of the festival coincided with tumultuous history of Polish politics what caused that sometimes communist government forbad it.

During this year – 27th edition, there will come many bards from whole Europe. First part of the contest will take place in “Łowicka” Centre. During this part all artist will be singing their own songs. The winner will win Grand Prix award of Jonasz Kofta and needed funds for recording an album.

The other big attraction should be a spectacle titled – “Długi and others” (November 23rd in Kamienica Theatre) with Długi Cabaret and Andrzej Ozga, Stanisław Klawe or Ryszard Makowski.

OPPA also promotes young talents like: S. Stańczuk, A. or Polek, who will give music concerts in Atr Club praCOVnia (November 24th) while their older friends – A.Andryszczyk and Paweł Szymański in a community centre – Śródmieście.

The last part of the festival titled – “Bards without Borders” (November 26th) will attract thanks to two interesting concerts of rising star of German stage – Dorota Kehr and talented Belarusian singer – Tatiana Bialnohaja – who won Grand Prix in 2006. Also more experienced bards like: Johan Meijer and Andrzej Garczarek from Poland should be attractive for enthusiasts of a good music.

The final concert (November 27th) will take place in Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio and will be dedicated to Tomek Opoka – famous Polish poet and bard. The other part of the final concert is titled “Premiers and Interpretations OPPA 2009” when all contesters will sing one their own song and one Polish interpretation of foreign songs of: Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Bulat Okudzhava, Włodzimierz Wysocki or Leo Ferre.
