Poland to sell carbon quotes to Ireland
Poland is going to profit on one of most ridiculous European Union ideas that obligated Member States to lower carbon dioxide emission in recent years. Every country has become its quotes of how much emission they can make before being penalized by the European Commission.
Poland has managed to cut its carbon dioxide production and wants to sell worth of carbon credits to Ireland. According to the Polish environment minister Maciej Nowacki the agreement for selling unused carbon dioxide emission rights to Ireland is expected to be signed in the next week or two.
The EU nations committed last year to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020 compared with 1990 levels for sake of the climate change. However this idea is laughable due to the fact that China, USA and India (world biggest carbon dioxide producers) have no intention to join such a treaty.
On the other hand Poland needs to restructure it energy supply facilities that are based on infrastructure dating largely from the communist era that depends on fossil fuel. It means that 20 per cent target will be met easily and there will be plenty more quotes that can be sold to other EU Member States.
