The conference of former Prime Minister took place during last Lower Silesian Politics and Economic Forum in Krzyżowa. 20 years ago Tadeusz Mazowiecki and German chancellor – Helmut Kohl met each other in order to overcome Polish-German antagonisms. Both countries decided to celebrate 20th anniversary of this special moment in Krzyżowa where everything begun.
After ceremonial mass of reconciliation Tadeusz Mazowiecki answered journalist’s questions.
“This forum gives me chance to experience my meeting with Helmut Kohl once again. It also gives me opportunity to see brighter future referring to Polish-German relationships. This process should be long and very successful” – said Mazowiecki.
“Polish-German cooperation goes in a good way. I am happy that the standard of living is quite similar in Poland and Germany. Our common reconciliation is about forgetting the past that should be changed for bright future. Both previous and current generation should take part in this difficult process because it is very important to understand our history” – added former Prime Minister.
According to Mazowiecki our economic cooperation is quite good, however it still could be better. We should also improve our cultural relationships. “I think that Poland is not as attractive for other European countries as it was in the past. We should change that. I do believe that the best thing we can do is too cooperate more closely with France and Germany” – explained Mazowiecki.
