An interview with German ambassador in Poland – H.Gerdts

Poland.com wants to present an n interview with German ambassador in Poland – H.Gerdts which took place during Lower Silesian Politics and Economic Forum in Krzyżowa.

- Mr. Gerdts, you have worked as an ambassador in Italy, Kenya, San Marino and now you are in Poland. Do you think that Poland is attractive country for tourist?

- Yes. I think that it true. I have seen many places that delighted me. The best Polish region is Masuria Lake District, which it is really magnificent place. I visited Sopot and Zakopane, which the best place for skiers and those who love mountains. I think that Polish landscape is similar to the German one.

- Has Poland changed within last 20 years?
- To be honest with you, I do not Poland from 20 years ago. But during last two years Poland has changed incredibly. This country is developing very fast and all changes can be seen every single day.

- What can you say about Polis-German relationships within last 20 years? Are they changed?
- Today we can say that both countries are good friends and neighbours in the middle of Europe. We are partners with huge influence on entire Europe. It is proved by very common meetings of our politicians, professors and teenagers so our relationships are alive.

- First domino block during the main celebration included very interesting sentence – “Everything started in Poland”. Is it true that Poland played important part in the overthrow of the Communist system?
- There were many opposition countries in Europe. Also Czech Republic and Hungary tried fight against this ideology, but on the other hand I do believe that “Solidarity” in Poland was the most important movement which brought freedom from Gdańsk to Berlin.
