Easter palm 35 meters high!
The competition of Easter palms has been organised in Lipnica Murowana, a small town in the Małopolska region, annually for 52 years. The event attracts thousands of tourists from the south of Poland.
That happens not only because of the old custom of raising palms higher than many blocks of flats, but also because of a fair where one can buy many Easter specialities. There are a lot of delicious meats, bread baked in a traditional oven and of course beautifully painted Easter eggs.
However, the main attraction remain sky- scraping palms. Every year the citizens prepare even higher ones. This year the winner is Zbigniew Urbański, a carpenter, whose palm is 35.1 meters long.
- That’s my last so high palm – announced the winner just after the jury had taken their decision. Mr. Urbanski had worked for two weeks and used 300 kilograms of wicker and hundreds of blotting flowers.
